Tonight's the Night: National Night Out Against Crime
Echo Park's event begins at 5 p.m. in the Walgreen's Parking lot. Rampart division hosts another event that starts with a walk from MacArthur Park at 5:30 p.m.
National Night Out is a truly national event, with communities all around the country organizing block parties and marches to educate people about crime and safety.

Here in Echo Park we're lucky to share two LAPD divisions-- the Northeast and Rampart. That means you have two Night Out events to choose from, at minimum.

One is the "Block Party" that kicks off in the parking lot at 5 p.m. (Walgreen's is at the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park Avenue.)
Speakers will include Captain William Murphy from the Northeast division, as well as City Council member Ed Reyes and a depty from state senator Kevin de Leon's office.

All kinds of community groups and businesses will also be on hand, with free activities and gifts for kids and adults.
Echo Park Patch will have a booth. Please stop by for some swag and a chance to write a haiku or other short poem we may publish on the site.

At the same time that's going on, people will be marching from MacArthur Park to Rampart division headquarters.
Marchers will gather at 5:30 p.m. in the park, and be back at the station by 6 p.m.
Rampart's National Night Out will also feature a fair with booths a food.
