City Invites Public Input on Climate Action Plan at Tuesday Meeting

The City of El Cerrito is holding a public workshop Tuesday night, Feb. 12, to unveil its draft plan for cutting locally produced greenhouse gases and to begin receiving public feedback on the plan.

It's been more than two years since the City of El Cerrito began soliticing public opinion on developing a local "Climate Action Plan" to address global warming and find ways to reduce local emissions of greenhouse gases.

City staff now plans to release its draft Climate Action Plan at a public workshop Tuesday night, Feb. 12, from 7-9 p.m. at City Hall. In a meeting of the city's Environmental Quality Committee, staff will provide an overview of the plan, answer questions and accept public feedback.

The meeting marks the beginning of a 30-day public comment period, according to the city's Environmental Services Division. Comments may also be sent via email to city Environmental Analyst Maria Sanders at msanders@ci.el-cerrito.ca.us, by fax at 510-559-7682 and by regular mail sent to Climate Action Plan, City of El Cerrito, 10890 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito, CA 94530.

The City Council in February 2011 adopted local greenhouse reduction goals of 15 percent below 2005 levels by 2020 and 30 percent by 2035.
