Comment: "Don't Honk at the Turkey!!"

An article on the recent sightings and lordly behavior of El Cerrito's wild turkeys drew several comments about how to cope with these proud wildfowl, including our Comment of the Week.

Among the personality traits commonly attributed to the wild turkeys of El Cerrito, humility and deference seem to be notably lacking. Their comportment as they blithely stroll about town has generated ongoing public discussion about how to co-exist with them. Our May 19 story, "," drew a recommendation from reader Marta Belanger, which has been selected as our Comment of the Week:

Has anyone else noticed that they get particularly aggressive when they're honked at? I've seen it several times. A tom is in the middle of the street, taking his sweet time getting across, and a driver thinks honking at him will get him to move faster, but instead that just gets him mad and he starts pecking the car!

So whatever you do, DON'T HONK AT THE TURKEY!! :-)
