El Cerrito High Freshman Wins Prize for "Recursive Sequence" Variation

El Cerrito High ninth grader Cooper Frye explains his winning entry in the computer math category at the 54th annual Science Fair for West Contra Costa Unified secondary schools.

Cooper Frye, a ninth grader at , won a first-place award at the recent West Contra Costa Science Fair for his project, "Step Dependent Recursive Functions." 

His success means instant qualification to compete in the San Francisco Bay Area Science Fair at the end of this month.

He was one of 87 winners among 172 entrants from eight schools in the contest held at Contra Costa College in San Pablo. Those who took first, second and third place prizes in the March 3 awards ceremony are eligible to compete in the regional Bay Area science fair.
