Fire Crews Limit Home Fire to $3,000 in Damage

Richmond Fire officials say they believe the residential fire started in a garbage pile by vandals.

RICHMOND, CA- A small fire that started in garbage charred a Richmond home's fence and detached garage this morning, according to Richmond Fire Department officials.

Two fire engines responded to the fire in an alley in the 800 block of 28th Street at about 11 a.m., Battalion Chief Manley Moulton said. The fire, which began in some garbage that was leaning against a fence, was quickly knocked down and damage was limited to an estimated $3,000, Moulton said.

No one suffered injuries as a result of the blaze, which fire officials believe may have been caused by vandalism. The fire is still being investigated.
