High School Service Club Members Help Get Holiday Toys to Kids

Interact members helped with Richmond and El Cerrito Firefighters Toy Program.

The annual depends on the donation of many toys to give to economically disadvantaged children. But it also requires another kind of contribution: help getting the toys organized and distributed.

Members of El Cerrito High School's Interact club, a service learning organization, were among those helping out this year.

In mid-December, Interact volunteers assisted firefighters as well as volunteers from other organizations in unloading donated children's toys brought to a storage area.

Unloading and bagging the toys was a week long process, from Dec. 13 to 17 . On Dec. 21, Interact then helped to transport the toys to the YMCA on South 20th Street for distribution.

On Dec. 22, Interact helped to distribute the toys to the families.  More than 2,000 families were provided with toys.

Interacters were well rewarded by seeing the smiles on children's faces as they helped to distribute the toys.

Interact has helped with the toy drive for at least three years.
