Murphy Elementary Head Custodian Named Employee of the Year​

From West Contra Costa Unified School District: Murphy Elementary School’s head custodian, Jimmie Collier, has been named one of two 2016-2017 Contra Costa County Office of Education’s Classified Employee of the Year.

Collier, 41, is in his 23rd year with the District, including the past seven at Murphy. He handles everything from repairs to ensuring the campus is safe and clean for the students and staff.

“It tripped me out,” Collier said. “I have worked for a long time in this District and never received this type of accolade. I just appreciate everything Murphy’s community has done for me.”

Collier will be honored at the 2016-2017 Classified School Employees of the Year event at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 in the Board Room at the Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCOE), located at 77 Santa Barbara Rd in Pleasant Hill. The deadline to RSVP for the event is Friday, April 14.

“(Jimmie) is amazing,” Murphy Principal Carlena Moss said. “He wears many hats here. He is a jack-of-all-trades and is a master at all of them.”

A WCCUSD product, Collier moved to the Bay Area as a child and attended Stege Elementary and Portola Middle School. He graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1993. He first began working for the District at El Sobrante Elementary School and has served students and teachers at Mira Vista and Sheldon.

Murphy’s Tina Otten, who has served as Murphy’s school secretary for the past four years, and Human Resources Credentials Technician Angelica Aguilar will also be recognized at the celebration as two of the 18 countywide nominees.
