Plainclothes Cops Help Nab Thieves and Burglars
The El Cerrito Police Blotter for Feb. 8-10 says a group of car thieves and burglars and a commercial burglar were arrested following deployment of plainclothes officers in commercial areas on two of the last three weekends.

February 8, 2013
Public Intoxication – El Cerrito Plaza
Officers contacted a man sitting in front of the Plaza Coin Laundry drinking from a can of beer. The man was extremely intoxicated and was taken into custody for his own protection and the protection of others. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Petty Theft – 4010 EC Plaza (AT&T)
Two suspects entered the store and one removed an iPhone from the display case while the other distracted an employee. Both fled on foot from the business prior to police arrival.
Suspect # 1 is described as a Hispanic male juvenile, 17-19 years old, 5’8”, 135 pounds, wearing a yellow polo shirt and dark colored jeans.
Suspect # 2 is described as an unknown race male juvenile, 17-19 years old, 5’8”, 135 pounds, wearing a black sweater, blue hat, and blue jeans.
Warrant Arrest – Moeser Lane / San Pablo Ave.
Officers conducted a pedestrian stop and subsequently arrested a 51 year-old Fairfield woman for an outstanding warrant out of Solano County. She was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Driving under the influence – San Pablo Ave. / Portola Ave.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested the driver, a 57 year-old Richmond man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.
Driving under the influence – San Pablo Ave. / Manila Ave.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested the driver, a 31 year-old El Cerrito man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.
Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Panama St.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested a 24 year-old Richmond woman for an outstanding warrant. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.
Driving under the influence – Knott Ave. / Key Blvd.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested the driver, a 34 year-old San Pablo man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.

Residential Burglary – 6300 block of Barrett Avenue
A suspect entered the backyard to the residence and broke the glass pane to the rear door to gain entry into the home however no items were stolen. The crime occurred approximately one month earlier and the residents waited to report the crime.
Evading Officers, Possession of a concealed firearm, Possession of a short barreled rifle, and Possession of a concealed firearm by a minor – Carlson Blvd. / Avila St.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle. Instead, the vehicle fled and led officers on a short pursuit. At the conclusion of the pursuit, the vehicle traveled the wrong way on Van Fleet Ave. near San Luis Ave. before pulling over to the curb. The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. Officers searched the vehicle and located a .22 caliber rifle with a sawed off barrel and sawed off stock. After approximately an hour of searching for the suspects, the driver was located walking on San Pablo Ave. at Portola Ave. Officers arrested the 17 year-old Richmond resident. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and was transported to Juvenile Hall.

Officers attended a neighborhood meeting on Tuller Avenue to discuss tips on how to reduce crimes in the area and protect their homes from burglaries. Officers also provided guidance on how to start a Neighborhood Watch group.
Driving under the influence – Cutting Blvd. / Peerless Ave.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and subsequently arrested the driver, a 38 year-old Richmond woman for driving under the influence of alcohol. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.
During two of the last three weekends, the El Cerrito Police Department has deployed officers in plainclothes in an attempt to apprehend thieves in and around the commercial districts in El Cerrito. Their efforts have resulted in the arrest of a group of car thieves and burglars as well as the arrest of a commercial burglar.
