“We are honored to receive this distinction,’’ Dinh said in a statement. “One of our primary goals at Prospect Sierra is to maintain our strong academic programs while working to find new ways to prepare our students to thrive in the future. We appreciate being recognized by NAIS for the progress we have made.’’

The association selected exemplary schools that focused on equipping students for the skills and knowledge needed in the future. Those chosen were characterized not only by a firm grounding in basic academic subjects but also by such features as project-based learning, engaging students in the outside world, embrace of digital technologies, strong arts programs, "learning communities" that involve adults, and "transformational leadership," according to the association's report, "A 21st Century Imperative: A Guide for Becoming a School of the Future."
