Residential Burglaries in El Cerrito at Highest Level in a Decade

With three months remaining in the year, El Cerrito police have already recorded more residential burglaries in 2013 than in any previous year since 2003, according to numbers from the California Department of Justice and the El Cerrito Police Department. As of Sept. 30 there have been 187 residential burglaries, including 33 nighttime burglaries. 

Undercover El Cerrito officers arepatrolling residential streets in unmarked cars following a spate of nighttime break-ins. The police department is also advising residents to take particular care when leaving the house at night and walking after dark. 

Last week, El Cerrito police arrested one of the men captured on a surveillance camera while breaking into a house on Cutting Boulevard. 

In the chart above, the burglary counts for 2003 to 2012 are from the California Department of Justice. The numbers for Jan. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2013 are from the El Cerrito Police Department.
