Parade draws hundreds of spectators from around the region.

From young people recently back from Iraq to at least one soldier who served in World War II, local veterans took the spotlight Friday in Elk Grove's annual Veterans Day parade.

Hundreds of flag-waving spectators from around the region lined Elk Grove Blvd and Elk Grove Florin Road to watch the procession, with the rain holding off until just after the last contingent made it to Elk Grove Regional Park.

The morning began with a reading of the names of veterans from the area. Then beginning at 11:00 a.m., local motorcycle clubs and high school marching bands joined veterans groups on foot and in historic vehicles as they made their way to the park.
