When city leaders wanted to entice Californa Correctional Health Care Services to move its headquarters to Elk Grove, they put together for the state agency and property owner Pappas Investments.
It worked, and the department that provides healthcare to the state's prison inmates on a space in the Laguna Springs Corporate Center.
Now, the city may sweeten the deal further with discounted transit passes for the agency's employees. City council members will consider at their Wednesday night meeting whether to reduce monthly e-tran fares for the workers from $100 to $80.

The perk—along with adding new bus and shuttle routes to serve CCHCS workers—would cost the city $94,000, according to a staff report. That's assuming only 100 of the agency's 1,500 headquarters employees take advantage of the discount.
Beefed up transit service was one of the promises the city made in negotiations with the agency, which has many employees who will commute to Elk Grove from Sacramento and elsewhere.
