Saturday Tri-Tip Fundraiser Will Help Senior Center Buy a New Van
The Senior Center of Elk Grove hopes to raise $50,000 to buy a new van with wheelchair lift.

This weekend, a takeout dinner can help provide a new set of wheels for Elk Grove's seniors.
The Senior Center of Elk Grove is hosting a tri-tip dinner fundraiser Saturday, and residents can pick up a $40 dinner for four any time on the half-hour from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Currently, the senior center uses a 1998 minivan with more than 140,000 miles for its Dial-A-Ride program, Executive Director Pat Beal said.

That program offers rides to doctor's appointments, grocery stores, medical treatments, the senior center, and more. Beal said in the fourth quarter of 2012, the center's Dial-A-Ride program made 1,467 one-way trips.
"With the exception of the Transportation Coordinator, all drivers and desk personnel are volunteers," Beal said in an email. "Last year alone these people donated over 3, 000 hours to make this program a success."

The center needs about $50,000 to purchase a new van with a wheelchair lift, and has about $7,200 in a fund started in memory of Beal's late husband and former Senior Center Transportation Coordinator Chuck Beal.
