Missing Special Needs Student Found at Strikes

The school district mounted a frantic search after 13-year-old Kongmong Xiong left his classroom at Joseph Kerr Middle School this morning.

A 13-year-old special needs student who walked out of his classroom at Joseph Kerr Middle School this morning has been found at Strikes Family Entertainment Center, according to the Elk Grove Police Department.

Seventh-grader Kongmong Xiong was in class at about 8:45 am when another student made a loud noise that frightened him and a number of other students, said Elk Grove Unified School District spokesperson Elizabeth Graswich.

While adults were dealing with the disturbance, Xiong wandered off, she said.

Officers from the Elk Grove Poice Department and Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spent the day combing the area around the school for Xiong, who has limited communication skills and answers to the nickname Monie (pronounced Moh-nee).

Police also activated a special reverse-911 system that allowed them to send a single automated phone message to residents in the vicinity of the school, asking them for help.
