East Coast Pizza Rolls Out Window Bar

There's a new option for al fresco dining in Cardiff.

If you’ve been through the courtyard of Cardiff Town Center, you may have noticed a few more locals enjoying their lunch al fresco. That’s because East Coast Pizza recently added a large outdoor window bar so customers can look out onto the grassy knoll while they eat, and get a front row seat to see what’s happening in the kitchen.

“I liked the idea because customers can interact with the guys while they’re tossing pizzas and still get to enjoy eating outside,” owner Majki “Mikey” Lukic says. He first saw the concept at a bar years ago and it never left him. He removed an entire panel of windows to create the new dining surface, and so far, he says locals seem to love it, as a lunchtime seat in the courtyard is hot real estate, especially on a nice day.

All that new outdoor dining space will also come in handy during community events, like Cardiff School Association’s First Friday outdoor movie nights in the courtyard, and Taste of Cardiff.

Lukic says this is just the latest change he’s brought to the table since taking over the joint in 2007, and he’s hoping to expand in North County soon. No word yet on an exact location or timetable, but Patch will keep you posted. And though it has a different name, Massachusetts Mike’s Pizzeria in San Marcos is also affiliated with East Coast Pizza.

If you’d like to checkout the new digs, East Coast Pizza is located at 2015 San Elijo Ave. and is open Monday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
