Kids with Autism Learn to Surf with Encinitas Firefighter

Students from San Marcos spend a day riding waves in Oceanside with firefighter J.P. Peterson and his staff at Surfin Fire.

About 30 autistic students from The Country School in San Marcos spent last Thursday riding waves in Oceanside.

Instructors from the Carlsbad-based Surfin Fire surf school volunteer their time twice a year to teach kids from the school.

The camp is in its sixth year. Surfin Fire owner Jon Peterson is also a firefighter with the Encinitas Fire Department.
