Three Women, Especially, to Be Honored by Valley Masonic Lodge

VAN NUYS, CA -- Clarence F. Smith Daylight Lodge No. 866, Free and Accepted Masons of California, will celebrate the loved ones of its members and friends at its Sweethearts Dinner, Saturday night, February 11, 2023.

This even includes the spouses of three deceased Masons to whom the Broken Column Pin will be presented.

The pin depicts a broken column surrounded by acacia leaves.

The broken column is well known to Masons as an emblem of one who has entered the “Celestial Lodge Above,” in other words, a deceased Brother Mason.

The acacia “primarily symbolizes the immortality of the soul,” according to the Grand Lodge of Ohio at https://www.freemason.com/acac... .

The Broken Column Pin, as presented, expresses Freemasonry’s continuing concern and honor for a deceased member’s widow. With it, Masons recognize both this special sweetheart’s enduring support of her husband and of the fraternity.

This ideal is ingrained in the three principal tenets of freemasonry: Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth.

The Broken Column Pin says to the recipient, “we honor you; we include you; we cherish our connection to you, we will support you in times of need.”

Most importantly, the pin says, “you are not alone.”
