Chris Brown Arrested After Daylong Standoff with Police

BREAKING: Singer Chris Brown is in custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly pointing a gun at a woman.

TARZANA, CA — After a daylong standoff at Chris Brown's Tarzana home, police arrested the singer on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly threatening a woman with a gun.

Investigators served a search warrant at Brown's home in the 5000 block of Corbin Avenue and escorted him to a squad car to be taken to downtown Los Angeles to be booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Chris Ramirez.

The peaceful end to the incident came after a standoff that lasted several hours and during which Brown tweeted his frustration with police while the SWAT Team waited outside.

The LAPD had responded to a call from a woman requesting help at 3:11 a.m. at the 5000 block of Corbin Avenue in Tarzana, an LAPD spokesman said. When police arrived, Brown reportedly refused them entry. People leaving the house were being searched by police, while authorities waited for a search warrant.

Brown's attorney, Mark Geragos, arrived at the home during the standoff.

Early Tuesday, as officers were in the process of obtaining the search warrant and the SWAT team stood by as a precaution, the singer blasted police on social media.

"If only the 'SWAT TEAM' showed up at crime scenes when innocent lives get taken, like they show up at people house over dumb phone calls," he tweeted.

In a series of expletive-laced video posts on Instagram, Brown lashed out at the police.

"When you get the warrant, whatever you need, you gonna walk right up in here, and you gonna see nothing, you idiots," he said. "I'm tired of (expletive) dealing with you all. Y'all the worst gang in the world, the police."

He contended he was asleep and awoke to the sound of the police and media outside.

"So I'm asleep half the damn night, I just wake up, all these (expletive) helicopter choppers is around," he said. "There are police out there at the gate. ... What the (expletive) else do you want from me, bro? I stay out of the way. Take care of my daughter. Do work. ... At the same time, when I call the police for stalker people that are endangering my life, they don't come til the next day. Let somebody make a (expletive) allegation about me, oh yeah, the whole (expletive) SWAT team."

Brown also mocked the media coverage of the situation, saying all it was doing was giving him publicity. He lashed out at the characterization that he was "barricaded" in his house.

"Have you seen my house? I'm gonna barricade myself in a palace," he said sarcastically.

"What I do care about is y'all are defacing my name as a person and my character and my integrity," he said. "I am a father. I am one of the best entertainers out here — without bragging and trying to say, 'Woe is me, I'm not getting enough credit."'

By mid-morning, TMZ reported that Brown had thrown a duffel bag out of a window, and police retrieved at least one gun, some other weapons and drugs.

According to TMZ, Brown was in the house with several friends, including singer Ray J., when some uninvited guests arrived. The guests were then asked to leave, and one of the uninvited guests, a woman, filed a police report claiming Brown pointed a gun at her.

At some point, Ray J. decided to leave and was detained by police, according to TMZ. His car was then kept as evidence, and the singer was driven home by someone else, according to TMZ.

Police, however, said they are still investigating the incident and have not released any details.

Brown has had a number of run-ins with law enforcement, most prominently his 2009 domestic abuse of then-girlfriend Rihanna.

A week ago, he sought to invalidate a summons served by a process server involving a lawsuit filed by a life coach hired to help rehabilitate the entertainer's image.

Mike G sued the singer on June 23 in Los Angeles Superior Court for allegedly beating him up on May 10, just days before Brown was to leave for a European tour.

The plaintiff maintains he thought he was having a routine talk with Brown about the tour, but alleges Brown instead took him into a room and punched him four times in the face and neck.

While he had to go to the hospital to be treated, Brown showed no remorse and boasted to others about the attack, the suit alleges.

A hearing is scheduled Nov. 29 before Judge Elizabeth Allen White.
