ESCONDIDO, CA — A geometric storm in space ushered in the aurora borealis last week, which painted a colorful display over some parts of California.

The aurora borealis, better known as northern lights, were caused by increased electromagnetic activity since the sun is believed to have reached the height of its 11-year solar cycle.

In Escondido, Patch reader Bonnie Kassebaum captured the celestial phenomenon on Thursday evening.
