• Escondido Fire Department adds sixth ambulance to fleet (thecoastnews.com) — Escondido is adding a sixth ambulance next spring, funded by Measure I, to cut response times and keep more emergency units available for local calls. With call volumes up sharply and some months seeing no ambulances free for nearly a full day, officials say the new unit will recover much of its cost through transport revenue and may eventually move to a future Fire Station 8.
   

• Fatal Crash on Valley Center Grade (valleycenter.com) — A 30-year-old Escondido man stopped to help a stranded driver on Valley Center Grade when a pickup veered onto the shoulder, fatally striking the disabled vehicle’s driver. CHP says alcohol appears to be a factor and has arrested the pickup driver on felony DUI and manslaughter charges, asking witnesses to come forward.
