PaintCare Shares Five Ways to Recycle Sacramento-Style on Nov. 15 and everyday
With America Recycles Day (Nov. 15) around the corner, here are PaintCare's tips on Five Ways to Recycle in Sacramento!
PAINT RECYCLING MADE EASY
PaintCare is a nonprofit organization that operates the paint recycling program in California and ten other jurisdictions. Visit one of the more than 825 drop-off sites across the state (mainly at hardware and paint retail stores and household hazardous waste facilities) to finally unload all that unwanted paint you've been holding onto. For more information, visit www.paintcare.org.
ZERO WASTE SHOPPING
Refill Madness is a Sacramento's zero waste headquarters providing everything from laundry detergent to bubble bath in reusable, biodegradable containers. All their locally made products are sold by weight in refillable containers alongside handmade goods from local makers including Shikai, EO, and Copper Moon. They also have a recycling donation center for used health and beauty products. Stop by or visit www.refillmadnesssacramento.com.

RESTORE
The ReStore is always looking for donations of new and gently used materials to add to their inventory and help fuel their mission of building homes for low-income families. This past year, the ReStore diverted 1 million pounds of usable materials from landfills and generated more than $1 million in sales to support building hope and homes in the Greater Sacramento community. WASTE WIZARD
Sacramento has its very own SacRecycle app providing residents quick access to waste and recycling information, such as recycling calendars, reminder notifications, and the Waste Wizard, a database of hundreds of household items and proper disposal methods. Residents can type in the name of any item they are looking to get rid of and the app will tell you to properly recycle or dispose of it. For additional information, visit the city website and search for Waste Wizard.

SPRING FORWARD
Nearly 20 million mattresses end up in U.S. landfills each year. ByeByeMattress is a national nonprofit making it easy to recycle your old mattresses and box springs. Up to 75 percent of the materials can be recycled and the agency has collected more than 5 million mattresses so far, which reduces the waste in landfills and provides jobs for recyclers. Check out their website for information on a recycling site near you or to schedule a pickup. For more information, visit www.byebyemattress.com.
This list was developed for America Recycles Day on behalf of PaintCare, a national paint stewardship nonprofit that sets up drop-off locations for unused paint, arranges for recycling and proper disposal, and conducts public education. The other organizations were identified via online research so we can't vouch for organizations or the accuracy of the online information.
