Retailer Shipping Deadlines Last-Minute Holiday Shoppers Need To Know

Procrastinators still checking gifts off their Christmas lists still have some time, even if they’re having the item shipped.

The window to send a package in the mail has mostly closed. Saturday, Dec. 20, is the deadline for priority mail with a pre-Christmas delivery.

The U.S. Postal Service said in October that it had hired 14,000 seasonal employees, and it was “ready to handle the expected increase in mail and package volume during the holidays.”

“The Postal Service plans throughout the year to deliver the nation’s mail and packages during the high-volume holiday season, and we are well-prepared and ready to deliver for the American public,” Postmaster General and CEO David Steiner said in the release.

FedEx and UPS are both offering shipping services during the busy days leading up to Christmas Day.

Saturday, Dec. 20, is the deadline for FedEx’s Express Saver service. Same-day delivery is available on Wednesday, Dec. 24.

UPS didn’t provide a cut-off time for ground shipping. For an estimated delivery date, which varies based on where they live and where they are shipping to, gift-givers should visit the UPS website.

UPS deadlines to be aware of are Monday, Dec. 22, for second-day air service; and Tuesday, Dec. 23, for next-day air.
