Carmichael Man Arrested in 'Possible Nexus to Weapons and Narcotic-Related Activity'

A warrant was served to a 60-year-old Carmichael man Wednesday morning.

Carmichael residents had a bit of a surprise wake-up call Wednesday morning when Sacramento County Sheriff's SWAT team rolled up to the 6000 block of Holeton Road with bullhorns ablazing.

The event started early, and woke up one Fair Oaks Patch reader, who took the time to send a letter:

We live one street over and were woken up by the Sacramento County Sheriff's megaphone, and officers telling one or more people they were surrounded and to leave their house with hands up. I don't know how many officers there were -- didn't go outside to look -- but it sounded like a pretty big deal.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos understood the reader's concern, noting the presence of a large SWAT enforcement unit in a residential area would be enough to make anyone curious, if not a little concerned as well.

"We served a search warrant this morning," Ramos said.

The warrant resulted in the arrest of a 60-year-old male. Ramos explained the warrant had to do with an ongoing investigation he could not provide many details on; however, he did say intelligence suggested the suspect had connections to "a possible nexus to weapons and narcotic-related activity."

"We brought our Special Enforcement Detail (SWAT) team along to facilitate the entry," Ramos explained in an e-mail. "That explains it looking and sounding like such a big deal to neighboring residents."

During the arrest Ramos said investigators recovered ammunition of an unspecified kind along with illegal narcotics.

The man was peacefully taken into custody, Ramos said.
