Good News For Bella Vista High Students

Bella Vista ranks above average among California high schools and gets solid praise from a new report.

A recent report ranks Bella Vista High School above average among California High Schools in two key academic categories.

Bella Vista ranked No. 221 among the Best High Schools in California for 2012, as announced Tuesday by US News and World Report magazine. Other schools in the San Juan Unified School District were not ranked.

Thirty percent of Bella Vista seniors passed the AP test. The school also scored well in the state's academic performance index.

A three-step process determines the news magazine's Best High Schools ranking. The first two steps ensured that the schools serve all of their students well, using performance on state proficiency tests as the benchmarks. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepare students for college-level work.

The clear winner was Pacific Collegiate School in Santa Cruz, listed as the best high school in California. Pacific just missed finishing in the top 10 nationally of Best High Schools, ranked number eleven.
