Man Accused of Slicing Neck During Fight Turns Self In

A Foster City man was reportedly involved in the fight Thursday night.

A San Carlos man accused of slicing open a another man’s neck with a letter opener in San Carlos turned himself in on Sunday, ending a three-day man hunt.

Brenden Hobson, 22, and Jason Spears, 20, were in the 400 block of Laurel Street in San Carlos on Thursday when at about 3:30 a.m., Spears and Hobson’s interactions with another 22-year-old Foster City man became violent, according to San Mateo County sheriff's office spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt.

“During the altercation Suspect Hobson sliced the victim’s neck with a letter opener after which Suspect Spears punched the victim in the face,” Rosenblatt said. 

Spears, who lives in Redwood City, was arrested at the scene. Hobson fled before sheriff’s deputies arrived that morning, triggering a county wide alert to other law enforcement agencies. 

On Sunday at about 9 p.m., Hobson turned himself into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City. He was arrested on suspicion on with assault with a deadly weapon. 

Spears was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and assault with a deadly weapon. The victim was taken to the hospital for his neck wound and facial lacerations where he was treated.
