A Ferry Terminal in Foster City?

The second in a series of public meetings to discuss what to do with two city-owned parcels of land will be held in Foster City on Wednesday, April 3.

The forum, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. April 3 in the City Council Chambers, located at 620 Foster City Blvd., will cover study options for the use of two city-owned parcels along the bayfront levee pedway.

Werder Park, adjacent to Werder Pier, consists of 2.6 acres and includes a picnic area, restroom and parking lot. Destination Park is a triangular-shaped parcel near Halibut Street.

The public is being asked to help answer the following questions:

1. What are the possible uses of these locations?
2. How can they be best utilized by the city to enhance the quality of life of its residents?
3. How can these sites support Foster City as the ideal community on the Peninsula to live, work and play?

The city has hired Callander & Associates, a park planning and landscape architectural firm, to assist in engaging the community to identify viable options for the use of these properties. Some ideas that have already been proposed include:

• Passive open space/landscaping with natural vegetation – Both sites
• Installation of picnic tables and benches – Both sites
• Community garden – Both sites
• Single stall restrooms/operational at Werder Park, new at Destination Park
• Interpretive signage for birds, wildlife, etc. – Both sites
• Potential construction material lay down area for City projects - Werder Park
• Bike or other concession/vendor opportunities - Werder Park
• Ice rink and concession stands – Werder Park
• Regional Ferry Terminal
