Wind Advisory Issued for San Mateo Bridge

High wind advisories were issued for the Bay Bridge and San Mateo-Hayward Bridge Sunday evening and small craft advisories for Bay Area seas, with strong winds expected to continue into Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The small craft advisory, meaning that conditions are considered hazardous for smaller boats at sea, is currently in effect through 9 a.m. Monday for the waters between Point Arena and Pigeon Point, the National Weather Service said this afternoon.

A gale warning, meaning winds of 34 to 37 knots are expected, has been issued for Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m.

The weather service was forecasting strong north winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts of up to 45 mph for San Francisco and the North Bay and Peninsula coasts through Monday evening.

A wind advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Residents are warned that driving, especially in high profile vehicles like trucks, could be dangerous or difficult, and there is a danger of downed trees and power lines.

The weather service was forecasting a high on Monday around 56 degrees in San Francisco.
