DNA Links Man to Sexual Assault from 2012 Fountain Valley Robbery

Four years later, a Garden Grove man was charged with sexual assault during a Fountain Valley Robbery. DNA evidence linked him to the case.

A 26-year-old Garden Grove man was charged today with sexually assaulting a woman during a robbery in Fountain Valley four years ago.

The victim was working alone in a business in the 9000 block of Talbert Avenue about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10, 2012, when she was attacked, according to Fountain Valley police.

Danny Thien Nguyen, who was being held on $1 million bail, was arrested Thursday after DNA linked him to the attack, police said.

Nguyen was charged with sexual penetration by a foreign object, kidnapping to commit robbery or a sexual assault, second-degree burglary, second-degree robbery and assault with a deadly weapon other than a gun, all felonies. He also faces a sentencing enhancement allegation for the personal use of a deadly weapon.

Nguyen is accused of entering the business in January 2012, robbing the victim at gunpoint and then making her go to a back room where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

Nguyen is on probation from a robbery case out of Westminster, police said.

Nguyen pleaded guilty Oct. 3, 2012, to attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon other than a gun, and he admitted to a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon. He was sentenced to a year in jail and placed on five years of probation.
