More than a thousand people and their furry friends came out to the Fountain Valley Recreation Center on Sunday for carnival games, rides, live music, costume contests and more during the 2nd annual Dog Day Afternoon.

As part of Fountain Valley's Summerfest, the free event featured dog training courses and competitions, and closed with an Independence Day-themed canine costume contest in the evening.

Stephen and Brandi Terry, founders of the Desperate Paws of Orange County Dog Club, a nonprofit organization that promotes dog welfare adoption, said,
"There is no dog event or dog-friendly event like this in Orange County or Southern California that we are aware of. This event is like being able to bring your dogs to a county fair."
