• Water District Hikes Turf Rebate (outlooknewspapers.com) — Glendale businesses, schools, HOAs, and public agencies can now get a hefty $7-per-square-foot rebate to replace ornamental grass with drought-tolerant landscaping, thanks to a boosted Metropolitan Water District program promoted by Glendale Water & Power. The incentive helps locals get ahead of California’s phased 2027–2031 ban on watering nonfunctional turf, but funds must be reserved before starting projects and completed within 180 days. 
• Glendale firefighters help rescue cat trapped in wall (newsnationnow.com) — Glendale firefighters teamed up with Pasadena Humane to save a calico cat trapped between cinderblock walls at a local office building, after an employee heard faint meows. The cat arrived at the shelter in critical condition with hypothermia and dehydration, but recovered in intensive care and was ultimately adopted by the same Glendale employee who first discovered her.
• Retailers and restaurants that have already announced closures for 2026 (kxan.com) — Shoppers at Glendale Galleria may want to keep an eye on Macy’s, as the chain continues a nationwide plan to close 150 underperforming stores by the end of 2026. The broader retail shakeup also includes planned closures at Walgreens, Wendy’s, Kroger, Foot Locker, Carter’s, Red Robin, and REI, reflecting ongoing pressure on brick-and-mortar shopping across the country.
