Update: 2 People Airlifted to Hospital After Plummeting Off Glendora Mountain Road

Update:

A man and a woman escaped with only minor injuries after their sports car plunged several hundred feet off Glendora Mountain Road, trapping them for about two hours, authorities said today. The accident was reported at 11:41 p.m. Monday at Glendora Mountain Road and Glendora Mountain Ridge Mountain Way in the Angeles National Forest, said sheriff's Sgt. B. Lisle, watch commander at the San Dimas Station.

The Mazda Miata plunged 200 to 300 feet down the side of the road, Lisle said. It took Los Angeles County firefighters, Sheriff's Rescue and Arrow Support about two hours to free the 20-year-old man and 18-year-old woman and transport them Tuesday morning to County USC Medical Center, he said.

Their injuries appeared minor, but due to the nature of the fall, they would be carefully examined for internal injuries, Lisle said.

"They're extremely lucky,'' he said. "They should each go out and buy lottery tickets.''

Two people were airlifted to the hospital after their car drove off a 300-foot embankment off Glendora Mountain Road on New Year’s Eve.

A blue Miata plummeted over the side of the winding road at mile marker 8.44 at around 11:41 p.m. Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two people were injured in the crash and were airlifted to LA County/USC hospital.

There is no word yet on the extent of the victims’ injuries.

Another vehicle crash occurred near Glendora Mountain Road on Dec. 20, when a driver was rescued after his car fell 300 feet off the embankment. The driver, the lone occupant in the car, suffered a head injury and various fractures, and was listed in critical condition.
