5-Year-Old Dead, Man Still Missing After Swept Up By Wave: Coast Guard
The girl was rescued but died at the hospital, according to authorities, who suspended their search for the man after 22 hours.

HALF MOON BAY, CA — A 5-year-old girl has died and a 54-year-old man remains missing after the two were swept off Martins Beach by a wave Saturday, authorities said.
The incident occurred mid-day at the beach in Half Moon Bay, according to authorities. The girl was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced deceased, authorities said.
The U.S. Coast Guard conducted a 22-hour search covering 100 square miles before suspending their efforts, according to authorities, who used a 47-foot lifeboat, a helicopter and an 87-foot patrol boat to look for the man.

“The decision to suspend search efforts is one of the hardest decisions to make, but our crews searched for nearly 24 hours without any sightings of the missing person,” Capt. Jordan Baldueza, deputy commander of Coast Guard Sector San Francisco, said in a news release. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this very tragic event.”
