SMC Sheriff Offers Youth Defensive Driving Training Courses
Young drivers will have two chances in the coming weeks to pick up a few pointers on how to avoid accidents and stay safe behind the wheel.

HALF MOON BAY, CA — Young drivers will have a chance to pick up a few defensive driving techniques from the pros during two upcoming events hosted by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. The "youth defensive driver training" courses are open to any residents who are in high school or recently graduated, and have already received their driver's licenses.
"The class is an actual driving class that teaches the student how to avoid an accident and what to do if they are involved in one," the sheriff's office writes. "The student will learn how to avoid an accident by recognizing hazards, learn the defense, and take the correct action."
The hands-on training will also include lessons about what to do during a traffic stop and the dangers of drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel. The classes run 8 hours, with just two spent in the classroom and the majority spent driving. Each class will be limited to a dozen students.
