• Here's Why Police, Fire Engine Sirens Will Blare Dec. 17 In The Coachella Valley (patch.com) — Expect lights and sirens around Hemet Global Medical Center at 3:45 p.m. today as part of “Operation Holiday Cheer,” when police and fire agencies salute hospital staff and patients. The rolling event will visit hospitals across Riverside County today and Thursday, bringing Santa and holiday characters to spread cheer outside local medical centers.
   

• More information released on California couple found dead in Bisti Badlands (the-journal.com) — An elderly couple from Hemet died while hiking in New Mexico’s remote Bisti Badlands, where investigators found a sand message reading “Help, husband ill” near the husband’s body. Authorities believe a medical emergency and cold nighttime conditions played key roles, and emphasize how easily even prepared hikers can get disoriented and endangered in that rugged landscape.
