Cause Of Death Unknown For Body Found Floating In Hermosa Beach

Investigators believed the man died of a gunshot wound initially but upon further investigation, there was no indication of the wound.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — A body found floating in the water in Hermosa Beach last week was initially believed to have died of a gunshot wound but upon further investigation, authorities said there was no gunshot wound on the body.

Officials were notified about the body at about 7 a.m. Friday morning in the 2200 block of the waterline. When officials arrived they found a man who was "unable to be revived" and appeared to have been significantly injured from a gunshot.

"Under further investigation, there was no indication the injury was received from a gunshot and the cause of death is unknown at this time," the Hermosa Beach Police Department said.

The man was identified as a white man who was 40 to 45 years old, but further identification was withheld pending notification of his next of kin. The investigation will be continued by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department and the cause of death will be determined by the County Medical Examiner/Coroner.
