Hermosa Beach Election 2019 Results: Voters Approve Both Measures
Residents approved two measures, and an incumbent remains on the City Council, according to the preliminary results.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — Residents voted to elect incumbent Justin Massey and Riverside firefighter Mike Detoy to City Council, as well as approved two measures during last night's election, according to preliminary results.
Incumbent Justin Massey received 39.74 percent of the vote and Riverside firefighter Mike Detoy received 38.05 percent of the vote, according to the results, which still need to be finalized. Measure H, the city's Transient Occupancy Tax measure, was approved with 76.85 percent of the vote, and Measure CC, regarding the City Clerk position, was approved with 66.2 percent of the vote, according to the preliminary results. City treasurer Karen Nowicki ran for the position again, unopposed, and received 100 percent of the vote.
Three candidates were vying for two City Council seats, which come with a 5-year term. Incumbent Justin Massey was running for his second term on the council, against Riverside firefighter Mike Detoy and activist Trent Larson, who was running for a City Council set for the fourth time.

Voters also went to the polls to vote on Measure H, which raises the city's Transient Occupancy Tax up 2 percent. The Transient Occupancy Tax would charge 14 percent, but only to guests of hotels, motels and short-term lodgers who stay for a period of 30 days or less, City Attorney Mike Jenkins told the Daily Breeze.
Measure CC was also on the ballot, which, if approved, makes the city clerk a position appointed by the city manager instead of one to elect. Elaine Doerfling, the current city clerk, is retiring, and there are no candidates running for the position.
