Hyden-Scott, Kropp-Pavlik Win at Hermosa Beach Open

John Hyden and Redondo's Sean Scott win the 2012 Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series Hermosa Beach Open. Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik win the women's division for the fourth time and remain undefeated.

Local Sean Scott and John Hyden took home the win at the Hermosa Beach Open on Sunday, and Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik won the women's division of the tournament for the fourth time in a row.

With their win over Jennifer Fopma and Brooke Sweat of Hermosa Beach this weekend, the Kropp-Pavlik duo remain the winningest team on the Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series tour.

According to tournament organizers, more than 50,000 beach volleyball fans stopped by to catch the tournament action north of the Hermosa Beach pier over the weekend.

"It definitely helps to play in front of a large crowd," said Kropp. "We can feel the energy and it gives us an extra boost."

In the men's final, Scott and Hyden fought for a win over Brad Keenan and John Mayer in three games with final scores of 22-20, 21-23 and 15-9.

"This feels so special," said Scott. "I train in Hermosa, and I have my entire family here, so this feels so great to bring home this win."

The winning men's and women's teams from the Hermosa Beach Open will compete in the Milwaukee Shoot Out in August for a chance at a combined $60,000 prize purse.

The Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series will return to the Beach Cities Aug. 24-26 for the Manhattan Beach Open.
