Hermosa Beach's Getting Pickleball Courts At Clark Field

The Hermosa Beach City Council voted to restripe the westernmost tennis court at Clarkfield to create four permanent pickleball courts.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA -- The Hermosa Beach City Council on Tuesday approved converting a tennis court at Clark Field into pickleball courts.

In a 3-1 vote, the council voted to restripe the westernmost tennis court at Clarkfield to create four permanent pickleball courts. The city currently operates eight tennis courts, six at the Community center and two at Clark Field.

Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played indoors or outdoors with paddles and whiffle balls on modified tennis courts.

Pickleball enthusiasts in Hermosa Beach, many of them senior citizens, applauded the decision. They say the sport keeps them active and mentally fit.

“It will give athletes like me an opportunity to maintain our mental health and our physical health,” Lois Tuey told the Beach Reporter.
