Hermosa Teen Extends Greenbelt

Justin Hoot renovates, extends the path between Gould Avenue and 30th Street as part of his Eagle Scout project with the help of local volunteers.

In an effort to give back to the community, Chadwick High School student and Hermosa Beach resident Justin Hoot has completed his Eagle Scout project to extend the Hermosa greenbelt between Gould Avenue and 30th Street as well as repair the trail between Pier and Gould avenues.

“I think the extension and improvements of the trail will make it both more useful and enjoyable to all of the residents in Hermosa Beach,” Justin wrote in a letter to the Hermosa Beach City Council before launching his project in April. “It has been my favorite part of the greenbelt and a great part of our community.

Hermosa Beach-based Boy Scout Troop 860 members and other volunteers helped Justin with his project last month. For two weeks now, locals have been able to walk and exercise along the extended wood chip trail. Justin shared photos of the development of his project with Patch.
