Lifeguard Tower Panels Up for Auction
The boards that were painted vivacious colors last year will be auctioned off in February to benefit local foundations.
Even though the splashes of color on Hermosa’s lifeguard towers were washed away last year, bidders can take home a slice of the summer fun when the tower panels are made available for auction in February.
The silent auction is scheduled for Feb. 11 at the .
Proceeds will benefit the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation, and Santa Monica-based nonprofit Portraits of Hope, which is the organization that launched the countywide .

About 1,500 volunteers painted vibrant topcoats on lifeguard towers in May along the 31-mile coastline that stretches from Zuma Beach to Palos Verdes.
The towers were painted yellow, rumba orange, sweet pea, Toronto blue, and crocus petal purple.

As the exhibition came to an end, local volunteers painted the towers back to their original standard baby blue in December (see accompanying video under photos).
“I really don’t see the point in repainting the rails when it looked so great when it was yellow, blue, green,” Vistamar School sophomore Teo Lee said .
The auction for the lifeguard tower panels will begin at 6 p.m. and bidding will close promptly at 8:30 p.m. Residents can bid on the art with cash or credit card.
