Power Restored After Parrots Cause Blackout
The blackout affected thousands of Hermosa Beach residents.

Wild parrots on an overhead line caused a power outage that knocked out service to 6,109 Southern California Edison customers in Hermosa Beach, the utility reported.
The outage began at 3:56 p.m. and service was restored to all customers by 7:15 p.m., SCE spokesman Paul Netter said.
The outage area was bordered by Eighth Street to the north, The Strand to the west, Beryl Street to the south and Pacific Coast Highway to the east, Netter said.

A second blackout began at about 3:45 p.m. and affected more than 900 customers. It wasn't immediately clear if it was related to the larger outage; however, power had been restored by 10:30 p.m.
