Street Closures Announced For Hermosa Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade

Significant traffic delays are expected in the area during the parade, Hermosa Beach Police Department said.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — Several streets will be closed this Saturday for the 23rd annual Hermosa Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade, the city announced Thursday.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and police will be closing the following roads from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the event:

  • Valley Drive from Eight Street to Pier Avenue;
  • Pier Avenue from Valley Drive to Hermosa Avenue; and
  • Hermosa Avenue from Pier Avenue to Eight Street

The parade will begin at the staging area near City Hall on Valley Drive. Significant traffic delays are expected in the area during the parade, Hermosa Beach Police Department said.

A popular tradition in Hermosa Beach, the parade is expected to draw more than 15,000 spectators and participants Up to 100 local businesses, civic organizations and school marching bands will take part in the seven-block parade, the organizers said.

The Irish theme of St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by the many participants including bagpipers, the LAPD Emerald Society, green-clad locals on creative floats and numerous custom-made bicycles, Irish dancers, Storm Troopers, Brazilian dancers and four-legged friends from the Irish Setters Club of Southern California.

KTLA’s meteorologist, and Hermosa Beach resident, Vera Jimenez will be announcing the parade at the step-off location. Jimenez owns the Hermosa Beach Fish Shop. Hermosa Beach Man and Woman of the Year, Ryan Nowicki and Jackie Flaherty, along with various dignitaries and elected officials will be featured in the parade.
