Week in Review: Stars and Schools

From tattoos to alcohol, the Hermosa Beach City Council discussed various neighborhood concerns and the School Board has selected panel members to study options to sustain Hermosa schools.

Just in case you missed these local stories, here is the news that made headlines this week.

Dancing with the Stars

The season 12 premiere of , and Hermosa Beach resident Anna Trebunskaya took the stage with partner Sugar Ray Leonard. Trebunskaya owns a local dance studio and trained Leonard for this season’s competition. 

Tattoo Talk

Hermosa Beach residents to present the City Council with concerns about the number of tattoo parlors planning to open soon in town. The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in September that the city’s previous ban on tattoo businesses was unconstitutional as tattooing is protected by the First Amendment.

Woman of Year

The office of Assemblymember Betsy Butler named . Women across California were honored by their districts in a ceremony at the State Capitol on Monday.

Alcohol Policy

The City Council to direct the Planning Commission to gather public input on regulations and permitting for alcohol-serving establishments. The council also discussed ways to reduce the existing and unused hours at alcohol-serving restaurants and place a cap on the number of such restaurants in the upper Pier Avenue area.

School Panel

The School Board to serve on four different committees to further research options to sustain Hermosa Beach schools. The teams are: parcel tax committee, charter schools committee, unification-consolidated administration committee, and a committee to study developing a minimum programs curriculum.
