HGTV Seeking Professional Grade Renovators in 90042
Residents of Highland Park and Mount Washington can cash in on their renovation skills through the HGTV show.

Home and Garden Television is recruiting homeowners in Highland Park and Mount Washington who want to put their craftsmanship to the test on the popular renovation reality show Professional Grade.
Through the show, homeowners are given cash prizes for completing "professional grade" renovations on their houses at a cost less than market value.
HGTV representative Ronica Harris explained that if, for example, a homeowner spends $12,000 to complete a "professional grade" kitchen renovation that is determined to have a value of $20,000, the homeowner will then be awarded the difference.
Some homeowners have netted up to $40,000 through the show, Harris said.
There are some stipulations, though.
Harris said homeowners must be willing to put their own money down to complete the renovation, and their work must pass a quality inspection by HGTV's contractors in order to be eligible for cash prizes.
The homeowners won't be alone, though, as HGTV's contractors will provide them guidance at every step of the way during their renovation.
"We're looking for people in their 30s or 40s who may have just moved into their first or second home and who are looking to renovate," Harris said. "We're looking for people who can do the work themselves and don't mind getting their hands dirty."
Harris said the vast number of quaint, affording homes in Highland Park and Mount Washington make the area a prime location to recruit renovators.
"We're really focused on neighborhoods," she said.
Harris said the first round of shooting is already underway in Santa Clarita and that film crews would be looking to shoot in Highland Park and Mount Washington throughout the months of June and July.
