KCET, Wombleton Team Up for Highland Park Mixtape Contest
What songs bring to mind life in the Arroyo for you?

Do you know any songs that really remind you of life in the Arroyo? Does the mural on the corner of Avenue 61 and North Figueroa Street bring to mind Miles Davis' "Blue in Green?" Maybe a drive along Mount Washington Drive conjures thoughts of Jane's Addiciton's "Mountain Song." Whatever the song, KCET is offering locals a chance to score a $50 gift card to on York Boulevard for contributing to their Highland Park mixtape.
Inspired by their charming ode to place, Departures is creating a Highland Park mixtape—and we need tracks from you. Send us the name of a song (with URL from YouTube, if it exists) that reminds you of Highland Park, or even better, an original song. Include a 1-2 sentence explanation for a chance to win a copy of Artichoke's "Historic Highland Park" album, or the grand prize-- a $50 gift certificate to Wombleton Records in Highland Park. After the deadline seven winners will be selected with the grand prize decided at random to complete our 10-track mixtape, see below for contest details. Deadline: January 15, 2012

Do you have a particular song in mind? After you submit to their contest, post your song here in the comments and let us know why it reminds you of the Arroyo. We'll sweeten the pot by offering free Patch canvas bags to the first three people who comment, which they can use to carry around their vinyl and Artichoke CDs.
