Then and Now: From Market to Playground
The location of the current Monte Vista Street Elementary School was once home to Boy's Market.

These days, is known as Monte Vista Street's neighborhood grocer.
However, for decades that distiction belonged to another Highland Park market; Boy's.

Boy's was located on the corner of Ave. 55 and Monte Vista Street, near -which was itself built in 1895.
Boy's was more than just a neighborhood market; the Highland Park based chain operated numerous locations across the Southland, Bay Area and Northern California.

In the 1989, Boy's changed it's name to Market Basket after having purchased the naming rights from Kroger, who dropped the name in 1982.
