LOS ANGELES, CA — A body was found burning and hanging from a tree in Griffith Park Tuesday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The incident was reported at 12:31 p.m. near the Griffith Park Merry Go Round. The death was determined a suicide pending a coroner's examination, LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman told Patch.

The body was that of a woman, according to Margaret Stewart of LAFD. Information on her age and identity was not immediately available, though the woman's body was on fire at the time of the discovery, Stewart said.

The Los Angeles Police Department was investigating the death.
