Hazmat Shelter In Place Order: Bottles Taped To Bank Doors Shutdown Major Road

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Residents were told to shelter in place Monday morning after two bottles containing an unknown substance were found taped to the door of a Hollywood bank.

Authorities responded to the bank at 1600 N. Vine St, between Sunset and Hollywood boulevards, at around 8:45 a.m. to investigate the incident. Two one-gallon glass bottles filled with an unidentified liquid were found taped to the bank's front doors, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"There are no reported medical complaints and it is a static situation. This will likely be an extended duration operation to safely identify and properly disposed of the liquid," the LAFD said.

Businesses in the area were told to shelter in place, including a Trader Joe's, Fox 11 reported.

The station aired footage showing a bomb squad responding to the area. A section of Vine Street and a part of Selma Avenue were shut down during the response.

The closures ended at around 1:40 p.m. after authorities determined the substances were inert.

"After a thorough investigation by both LAPD and LAFD, the liquid inside the bottles was identified as a type of resin/polymer and was determined not to be a hazard," the LAFD's Margaret Stewart said.
