Hollywood Foreign Press Association Taps Ali Sar As New President
Ali Sar will take over the role following the sudden death of Lorenzo Soria.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — The Hollywood Foreign Press Association named Ali Sar as interim president, following the sudden death of Lorenzo Soria last week. Sar previously served as vice president under Soria and has held several positions during his 35-year HFPA membership. He will serve as president until June 2021, when Soria's term was scheduled to end.
“We were shocked by Lorenzo’s untimely passing. We are committed to the vision he had charted for HFPA,” Sar said in a press release.
An Istanbul native, Ali Sar currently serves as a special correspondent for The Moscow Times. He also has served as a news executive with Thomson Reuters Newspapers, and wrote for The Daily News for over two decades.

The 78th annual Golden Globes, presented by HFPA, are currently scheduled for February 28, 2021, nearly two months after its typical early January date due to coronavirus fears. It is not yet clear if the awards show will be held in person.
