Johnny Depp reprises his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” the fifth installment of the successful film franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean.” This time around, the legendary pirate is pitted against an army of undead treasure hunters led by ghostly Captain Armando Salazar while searching for the magical “Trident of Poseidon.” Also returning to the franchise are Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom.

“Baywatch”— Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, directed by Seth Gordon

“Baywatch,” is the big-screen adaptation of the successful 1990s TV series. In the movie version, Dwayne Johnson plays David Hasselhoff’s iconic role as Mitch Buchanan, steely leader of LA County’s lifeguards. Enter new recruit Matt Brody (Zac Efron), a disgraced Olympic swimmer. Together, they try to stop femme fatale Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra) from taking over Emerald Bay. Directed by Seth Gordon, the action-comedy has its share of fun splashes and high-octane thrills, but none of them necessarily buoy a disappointing script.

Skip it. As an alternative, watch 2012’s “21 Jump Street.”
